CONSERVATION PITCH @ CYBERJAYA
The world is vastly underestimating the benefits of acting on climate change. Recent research from the Global Commission on the Economy and Climate finds that bold climate action could deliver at least US$26 trillion in economic benefits through 2030. This ground-breaking research, produced by the Global Commission and more than 200 experts, highlights proof points of the global shift to a low-carbon economy, and identifies ways to accelerate climate action.
The low carbon economy is this century’s biggest opportunity. Galvanised by the historic Paris agreement, the transition to a low-carbon economy is underway and accelerating globally. Every sector in every market is undergoing transformation. Sustainability is now a mainstream business concern, and leading companies the world over recognise the opportunity – and the imperative – of being part of the solution. They are positioning themselves to thrive in the new green economy by setting emissions reduction targets in line with what science says is required to prevent dangerous climate change.
The Paris climate accords are expected to lead to an international carbon market after 2020, where countries that exceed emissions targets can purchase off-set credits from countries that reduce emissions beyond their targets, potentially opening new wealth opportunities for Arise SEA, Incorporated. Germany’s Berenberg Bank has predicted that the carbon price could rise to a hundred euros per ton by 2020. Though the carbon price had been hovering at around seven euros per ton for many years, it has sharply risen over the past year to over twenty euros per ton today. Carbon price have risen fivefold since the spring of 2017, the best performing commodity in the world.

We must advocate the idea of socio-environmental justice additionality beyond just financial returns. An estimated USD 300 billion – 400 billion is needed annually to conserve healthy terrestrial and natural ecosystems, and the clean air, fresh water and biodiversity on which we all depend. However, only USD 52 billion is currently flowing towards projects supporting conservation, while the private sector manages an estimated USD 300 trillion in assets.
"We're running the most dangerous experiment in history right now, which is to see how much carbon dioxide the atmosphere... can handle before there is an environmental catastrophe."Elon Musk
By the time we see that climate change is really bad, your ability to fix it is extremely limited... The carbon gets up there, but the heating effect is delayed. And then the effect of that heat on the species and ecosystem is delayed. That means that even when you turn virtuous, things are actually going to get worse for quite a while.Bill Gates
“The time is past when humankind thought it could selfishly draw on exhaustible resources. We know now the world is not a commodity”Francois Hollande
“We are the first generation to be able to end poverty, and the last generation that can take steps to avoid the worst impacts of climate change. Future generations will judge us harshly if we fail to uphold our moral and historical responsibilities.”Ban Ki-moon
“We'll lose more species of plants and animals between 2000 and 2065 than we've lost in the last 65 million years. If we don't find answers to these problems, we're gonna be victims of this extinction event that we're at fault for”Paul Watson
“Nature doesn't need people - people need nature; nature would survive the extinction of the human being and go on just fine, but human culture, human beings, cannot survive without nature”Harrison Ford
“We really need to kick the carbon habit and stop making our energy from burning things. Climate change is also really important. You can wreck one rainforest then move, drain one area of resources and move onto another, but climate change is global”David Attenborough
We are borrowing money from future generations. We are borrowing the carbon impact, the resource impact from future generations to get stuff cheap now. We have swept the dirt and dust from our society under the carpet - but this carpet is on other side of the planet.Kevin McCloud
“Climate change is not the concern of just one or two nations. It is an issue that affects the whole of humanity and every living being on this earth”The Dalai Lama
“Faith and reason must come together enabling us to make positive choices in our lifestyles, in how our economies are run, and in building a true global solidarity necessary to avert this climate crisis”Pope Francis
